about davidmahr
davidmahr's recording history
includes many successful CD releases and contributions to
compilation and tribute projects (view the complete
discography here). He also owns and manages his own record
label, Delicious
Records, where he works as a producer, songwriter, singer,
video editor, and sound designer.
Inspired by classic 80s synthpop acts (especially those by Vince Clarke), davidmahr began to
write his own brand of bittersweet, catchy synthpop in 1990
with his first band, The Innocents.
After a brief stint with the band Clarke's
Bell In 1995, davidmahr released his first solo effort,
a seven-song EP entitled Solitude,
on which he produced, arranged and recorded the music and
vocals.
Two more albums soon followed: 1997's No
Drama! and 1999's Lost
& Found. Both were critically acclaimed and featured
his unique brand of synthpop in such fan favorites as "I
Could Be So Fortunate," "Little Boy Blue,"
"More Each Day" and "Days After Night."
davidmahr spent the next two years touring
and promoting his albums, writing new material, and working
on other music-related endeavors such as creating sound design
for several popular San Francisco theater productions.
In 2002, davidmahr embarked on a collaborative
effort with Lars Wallden of popular Swedish synthpop band
AvantGarde. The duo recorded their first song - a popular
remake of Yazoo's "Walk Away From Love
- under the moniker The Agency. After a minor name
change, the newly formed Agency-X
released their first official single, "Don't
Hold Your Breath", on Delicious Records in November
2002. Soon after, davidmahr and Lars emerged from their respective
studios in San Francisco, California and Karlshamn, Sweden
with their acclaimed full-length debut album, "Mission
Impossible." This was soon followed by their second
single, "Right By Your Side."
Today, davidmahr continues to write with
long-time collaborator SFoRcE, and has been working on sound
design and video projects for San Francisco's Theatre Rhinoceros
(including the production of "Awe About Eve,"
"The Man Who Came to Dinner," "There's
Something About Marriage," and most recently "Shark
Bites)." He occasionally performs at various events
in San Francisco on his own, and can be seen cooking up a storm with his partner David B. on the
internet cooking show "Cooking
with David & David." And some have even spotted
him DJing as his alter-ego, DJ Licious.
