David Mahr: My Blog/News

DJ Gig @ ARTSHOW - Thank You! - July 18, 2010

A special thank you to all who came down to The Cat Club last night to support me and the ART SHOW event!  What an amazing night and such a great venue, too. There were art installations by featured artists Keith Gaspari and Paul Montwillo.  And the art wasn't just on the walls - we had DJs in the front and back of the house, mimes, a silver-bodied stiltwalker, a fireeater, a body painter and his, uh, canvas, fabulous food and more.

Around 7pm, I performed Century, the third track from my Only You CD, then had the pleasure of introducing an amazing singer and his band, Tim Carr (be sure to check out his MySpace page!). Then, at 8, there was a drag show featuring San Francisco favorites MuthaChucka, BeBe Sweetbriar and more, performing their interpretation of some of the art at the event. Amazing! Be sure to check out the photo gallery for some great pictures!

All in all, a fantastic night.  Many, many thanks Michael and Keith for inviting me to be part of such a great event.

EQCA Event a Success - Thank You! - May 9, 2010

Special thanks to everyone who came by to support the Equality California (EQCA) Spring Fling fundraiser event on Saturday!  The event was a great success, helping EQCA raise over $5,000 to help support the very important work that they do.  Photos from the event are in my gallery and on their events page.  You can learn more about EQCA here. Thanks again, it's very much appreciated!

Thank you! - April 25, 2010

Thanks to all of you who stopped by Truck yesterday to say hi!  The GayPocket party/Theatre Rhinoceros event was a great success and I had a blast!  Played lots of old and new synthpop, and even managed to sneak in a tease from my upcoming album called "Fever Alone."  Very cool, very exciting, and I'm very grateful.

Check out a few photos from the event.

P.S.  If you haven't already, download your copy of "Century" from my Reverbnation page -- it's free!  You can learn more about the song here.  Many thanks to all of you who helped push it up the Reverbnation pop charts in San Francisco - still in the top twenty! :)

DJ Gig: In San Francisco on Saturday, April 24th? - April 22, 2010

Hi synthpopsters! If you're in San Francisco this Saturday, April 24th from 2-5pm, I'll be DJing at the GayPocket SF Party/Theatre Rhino fundraiser event at Truck bar, a cute little place at 15th and Folsom, south of Market Street. It'll be a packed afternoon of excellent synthpop, drinks/soda pop, tasty food (have you tried their Frickles? They're fabulous!) and good fun, all for a good cause. Oh, some cute cover models, too! :) Cheers, and thanks as always for your support, it's very much appreciated.

Here are the event details.

I'm Mr. Blue - March 26, 2010

My Yazoo cover of "Mr. Blue" seems to be getting downloads on iTunes all of a sudden! Very cool. Nobody's Diary was originally released in 2002 by Ninthwave Records, but I just noticed on iTunes that it's back and copyrighted by "Cool CDs" instead. What up? Meanwhile, give it a listen and review, lots of great covers on this one, including "Walk Away From Love" by Agency-X (credited here as Agency).

Supermodel! Work! - March 19, 2010

Gay Pocket CoverOkay, I'm not RuPaul, but I was very excited to find out I'm on the cover of the Spring 2010/Issue 38 edition of the Gay Pocket San Francisco guide!  Gay Pocket is a helpful guide for locals and visitors too, and helps you find the many supportive businesses around the entire city -- not just the Castro (although that's included too!).  If you're visiting San Francisco during the next couple of months, be sure to get your copy.  My twin sister says I look too serious for someone holding balloons -- could she be right?

P.S. If you live in San Francisco and want to be a Supermodel too, Gay Pocket is also having a cover model contest - entries due by april 10th.  Check out their website for details.

P.P.S. The photo was snapped by the ever-fabulous Jill Mahnane, who has shot other photos that you will see very soon, including the photo in the header of davidmahr.com.  :)

Happy New Year! - January 1, 2010

Happy New Year from davidmahr.com!Just a short note to wish my family, friends and fans a happy 2010 and beyond.  2009 was a crazy year preceded by a crazy year, and I am very much looking forward to what the future may bring.  And the way it's looking, that includes a new EP, a remix CD and maybe that elusive holiday EP I promise myself every year that I'll do.  I guess we'll all have to check this page at the end of the year and see how I did.  But seriously, thank you to all of you and a happy new year to you and yours -- I couldn't do it without you.

Relentless: The Masters - May 7, 2009

They’re here! They’re here! Creating a new record can often be a long, drawn-out process, and frankly, my new single "Relentless" has been no exception. Sometimes the full-time job — and, well, real life — can force your creative projects to backburner temporarily. Which is why, after months of making it happen, it feels so amazing when the masters for your new project arrive in the mail in a nice padded envelope. A huge thank you to Brian Hazard at Resonance Mastering for his amazing work!  Next up: getting the masters and artwork ready to send to the distributor so I can get this bad boy out the door!

davidmahr spins 70s funk at Truck in San FranciscoThanks to all that came down to Truck on Sunday to support the Gay Pocket San Francisco cover model contest fundraising event! I really had a blast spinning a 2-hour set of 70s funk. The place was jammed and many great prizes were raffled off. My favorite Carol Channing look-a-like and hostess with the mostest Jordan L'Moore was there along with the cover content models. The Truck staff was awesome, and a lot of fun was had by all.
